About the AAWW
Breeders and enthusiasts striving to promote and inspire a viable future for the Alpaca industry.
The Alpaca Association of Western Washington (AAWW) is a group of alpaca owners, breeders, and enthusiasts who have come together as a regional affiliate organization of the international Alpaca Owners and Breeders Association (AOBA). Our goals are to raise public awareness of alpacas and their luxurious natural fiber, share knowledge and resources, plan and organize alpaca events, represent the interests of Western Washington alpaca owners as an affiliate organization of AOBA, and have fun!

Membership
Anyone who has an interest in alpacas can be a member of the AAWW (Farm Members must reside in Western Washington). Most members keep alpacas on their own ranches, but some members board their animals on other ranches (this is called agistment in the alpaca business). Some of our members are simply enthusiasts who want to meet local owners and find out more about the joys and challenges of alpaca ownership before taking the plunge. We hold quarterly meetings during which we discuss AAWW business and we aim for 4-6 educational seminars or social meetings. Our annual AAWW business meeting is held on the third Saturday of February. All interested parties are welcome to come "audit" one of our meetings, regardless of AAWW membership.

Alpacas are fun!

Alpacas are fun!
Alpacas are the ideal small-farm animal. You can put up to 10 alpacas on the same amount of pasture required to graze a single horse.
Alpacas have pads instead of hooves and are gentle ruminants. This makes alpacas very kind to pastures.
Alpaca fiber is prized for its luxurious softness, warmth, and luster. It has an extremely low prickle factor and a higher insulation value than wool.
Alpaca fiber contains no lanolin or grease, so a clean fleece can be spun immediately after shearing.
Alpacas are handsome, intelligent, earth-friendly creatures that respond well to human interaction. Kids love 'em!
